in broad daylight thursday morning. a friend of prosecutor mark haas tells cnn he feared for his life and carried a gun with him to work. days before he was ambushed and shot multiple times walking from his car. he was killed in an employee parking lot a block from the cough man county courthouse. witnesses say one or two gunmen wearing masks jumped in a getaway car. authorities still have no leads. >>> california's parole board is recommending freedom for one of charles manson's convicted followers. 70-year-old bruce davis was sentenced to life in prison in 1972 for the murders of two men. he was not involved in the more infamous murder of actress sharon tate. jerry brown now has 30 days to decide whether to release david. if freed, he would be the first convicted manson family member to leave prison. >>> a massive manhunt for a convicted murderer. mistakenly released from prison, it's over. illinois police captured stephen robbins last night 60 miles outside of chicago three days after he rent on the lam. is he serving time for a murder 11 years ago in indianapolis. it's still uncle

way northeast. check out these amazing images shot by a cnn ireporter just outside amarillo on monday. parts of the texas panhandle saw 19 inches of snow monday, forcing out the tow trucks in white out conditions. and from the ground to the air no snow but plenty of wind was on hand to whip around planes at the san antonio international airport. gusts hit more than 54 miles per hour at the airport, fortunately no injuries were reported. back in kansas city people just want a break from all the snowfall. >> it's been a long seven days, ten days something like that. i'm ready to go home. >> reporter: so, wolf, the worst of it has hit us here in kansas city, missouri and the system don't track to the north-northeast up towards chicago, michigan and canada and we also know that the storm is weakening according to our meteorologists. >> doesn't look like much traffic behind you, george. are people pretty much still hunkered down in kansas city? >> reporter: you don't find too many people on the roads. a lot of people are heeding that warning to stay inside. i can tell you the roads, the hi

in chicago. jennifer delgado tracking the storm closely from the cnn weather center in atlanta. ted, how does it look? >> well, the snow turned to freezing rain in the last few minutes here, which is perfect timing for the morning commute and should be a complete nightmare for people coming in and out of the city this morning, a difficult week. this is the second storm this hit places like kansas city and chicago. you mentioned flights. more than 700 flights were canceled between o'hare and midway. you've got stranded passengers, but they will try to work into the system today, it is going to be a very, very busy day at o'hare and on the roads here as this storm continues to pelt the midwest. soledad. >> what a big, hot mess for people there. o'hare already a challenge at times. thank you for that. right to jennifer delgado at the cnn weather center. we talked about you tracking the storm a lot the last couple of weeks. talk about this one. >> big snow totals. kansas city, picked up nearly 10 inches of snowfall. since then, things have quieted down, tracking snow on the radar. you can see for
